Event Archive > November 2011 Glocalization of Asian Culture in Hong Kong

Co-presented by State-of-the-Arts Foundation and the Federation of Asian Artists Hong Kong Committee

To celebrate the 15th year of the Hong Kong Committee participating in the Asian International Art Exhibitions, the Federation of Asian Artists Hong Kong Committee (FAAHKC) hosted their post-event exhibition in Hong Kong. The FAAHKC, led by Chairman Mr. Eddie Lui, participated in the 26th Asian International Art Exibition taking place in September 2011 in Seoul (Hangaram Art Museum of the Seoul Arts Center & Jeonbuk Provincial Museum). The Hong Kong Committee this year consists of 20 reputed local artists, including LEUNG Kui Ting and Robert John O’BRIEN.

State-of-the-Arts Foundation has always been supportive to local artists who would like to reach out internationally and share their art and culture with other regions. Our Foundation believes art transcends the barriers created by language, geographical distance and cultural differences; and this belief echoes with the vision of the Federation of Asian Artists. We therefore support FAAHKC by offering them exhibition venue to host their post-event exhibition in Hong Kong, as well as an Opening Reception and Video Sharing Session.

What is ‘Glocalization of Asian Culture’?

The participating artists feel that globalization eliminates borders and creates opportunities, also celebrating unique cultural heritage and the universal human experiences that have been shared in the process of globalization. The pieces are developed basing on the above inspiration and phenomenon, conveying what the artists feel towards their very own culture, as well as their widened vision of other cultures.

To educate the public on how Asian culture has influenced the development and style of Asian art, we organized a Video Sharing Session to offer the artists a platform to directly interact with our guests, allowing them to ask questions and discuss various matters. We are delighted to have the Chairman of FAAHKC, Mr. Eddie Lui, and our Foundation Director, Mr. Sidney Yuen, to be our officiating guests.
